Our hunt for Thursday, which was our final hunting day of the trip, was short because there were just no birds to shoot at! We were set up and ready to go at the Secret Pond at Goven’s about 30 minutes before shooting time but the birds apparently decided to vacate our area overnight. One of the few positives for the morning was that Moose got some practice laying down on his retriever stand (something we'd been working on through the week - to lower his profile and hide him better).
After sitting from 7:30–9:15 & seeing a total of 1 hen Mallard (that was not anywhere close enough to shoot), we packed it in and got an early start on our drive home. As we began the drive, there appeared to be no ducks anywhere around. My hypothesis is that the ducks that had been in our area continued to migrate and no new birds came in to replace them.
I'll do a recap post tomorrow to close up the 2026 installment of the BLOG...
